With the apparent market for shopping bags this project started in July 2003. The initial start-up group in Zamdela consisted of 4 ladies, a donation of sewing machines and raw enthusiasm. The group disintegrated when a fixed salary was demanded rather than the concept of production output determining your income.
A new group of people drawn from the Christian Family Fellowship, Sasolburg, began in August 2003. Once skills were learnt and refined, excellent quality hold-all bags were manufactured. The concept of them determining their own income by producing more is being well entrenched.
The dream is to consistently provide opportunities for people to create their own income by manufacturing sought-after products of excellence.
The Bag Ladies Team
The Team consists of a marketer (the only male) and 6 ladies who measure, mark and manufacture the product.
The Bag Ladies have several other products such as: college bag, picnic blanket, nursery school bag, nursery school overall apron, poncho in a pouch and purses. The existing products need a touch of ethnicity to appeal to markets abroad.
